What is included in TOIT 2017 price?

The price for TOIT 2017 includes tuition fees, 3 nights (Thur, Sept. 28 - Sun, Oct 1) at the hostel with full board (3 meals per day), Welcome Dinner, coffee breaks, and training materials.

Note that travel, health insurance, subsistence expenses, and costs for visa are NOT covered.


Can I pay when I arrive at TOIT 2017?

No. This isn't possible. Please register before September 14, 2017 at http://toit2017.eventbrite.com .


Can I get a refund?

No. Unfortunately, we do not process refunds. It is officially stated at TOIT registration page and we cannot make exceptions: http://toit2017.eventbrite.com


I see the discounts for students and SIETAR members. How do I provide a proof the my status during the registration?

During online registration via Eventbrite, you will not be asked to provide any proof of your membership. However, at the end of August 2017 the orga team will ask to provide some kind of a proof like a receipt of SIETAR membership payment or a student card.


Are there any grants for TOIT 2017 participants?

Yes, TOIT 2017 volunteers can apply for a participation grant. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer and receiving the grant, please read further information here .

The organizing committee has tried to bring the prices down as much as possible. Special reductions include Early Bird registration (from May 15 to July 14, 2017) and other discounts advertised at the event Facebook page.


I need a visa to enter Spain, can I receive an invitation letter?

Yes. Please contact training@youngsietar.org in case you need an invitation letter.


Do I get my money back if I do not get a visa?

No. Unfortunately, we do not process refunds. It is officially stated at TOIT registration page and we cannot make exceptions: http://toit2017.eventbrite.com .

In case you need a visa, we would kindly ask you to first contact training@youngsietar.org to get an invitation letter. We recommend proceeding to the online registration and payment only after you receive the visa. As soon as you contact training@youngsietar.org, the spot will be reserved for you for a limited time.  


How much money should I calculate for personal expenses?

Subsistence expenses are not included in TOIT 2017 price. Please calculate your personal expenses on your own.

Which track shall I choose?

The 2017 TOIT program comprises two distinct yet related tracks that participants can choose from, based on their own assessment of their level of experience, knowledge and interests.


Can I participate in sessions of the other track?

Yes. You should choose a track during online registration however you have flexibility to switch later.


Is there a detailed day-to-day Program/Agenda that I can review before the registration?

Yes, there is a the day-to-day agenda finalized by the trainers. It is decided that the detailed agenda will be sent out to participants closer to the first day of the training as a part of the e-Welcome Booklet.

Can I participate only in a part of TOIT 2017? Can I arrive one day later/leave one day earlier? Is there a reduced fee for that?

No. If you arrive later or leave earlier, it would be both unproductive for you and disruptive for the rest of us. We ask you to commit the whole time from Sept. 28, 2017 to Oct. 1, 2017. There is no reduced price for such cases.


Is there a possibility that TOIT might be cancelled?

No.


What language is used at TOIT 2017?

Training sessions are delivered in English.

Where can I learn more about the hostel?

The hostel is a part of the national network of youth hostels of Catalonia (XANASCAT), composed by almost 51 hostels. XANASCAT is a member of the International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF), with more than 4.000 hostels in more than 80 countries worldwide.

What sort of accommodation is included in the congress fee?

Your accommodation is included in the TOIT 2017 price and arranged for three nights (Thur, Sept. 28 - Sun, Oct 1). The hostel building will be exclusively used by TOIT 2017 trainers and participants.

Furnished with single and bunk beds, rooms can accommodate 4, 5, 6, 8 or 10 persons with access to shared bathroom facilities (men and women separately).

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in a large dining room. Hall is equipped with a TV and vending machines. The building is surrounded by a garden with recreational amenity. A free parking area is available near the property.


Is there the possibility of ‘upgrading’ my sleeping accommodation?

No. Unfortunately, there is no possibility of upgrading you to a single room.


Is it compulsory for all participants to stay at the hostel?

No. It's not obligatory to stay in the hostel. However, the partial refunds of the accommodation costs are not possible. So participants could stay at any other place at their own expense with no partial reimbursement of the registration fees paid.

Please note that the hostel will be exclusively booked for TOIT 2017 so there will be no guests who are not related to the Young SIETAR event. We want to create a productive atmosphere for learning and networking.


If yes, is it possible for my colleagues and I to be placed in the same room?

Yes. It is possible for you to stay in one room. We will do our best to place you in the same room with your colleagues. If you specifically request it, please write to training@youngsietar.org after you register.


Can I stay in Barcelona longer than the duration of TOIT 2017?

Yes. But we’re asking you to arrange your extra stay yourself.

As far as September is low season in Barcelona, the hostel where TOIT 2017 is taking place is open only during the weekend. It is is usually closed during the week. The hostel will be open on Monday Oct. 2, 2017 if the hostel will have a minimum number of guests (10 or more). You might contact the hostel directly using contacts from its website to ask about accommodation and payment method option for you:

Alternatively, you might look for AirBnB / hostel / hotel in Barcelona for additional nights if you wish to be closer to the city centre for your leisure time outside of TOIT 2017.


Can I use the Internet and where?

Yes. Free wifi is available at the hostel in public areas.


When shall I arrive?

TOIT 2017 officially starts at 4.30 pm (16:30) on Thursday, September 28, 2017. Please arrive at the hostel by that time.


When can I leave?

TOIT officially finishes at 4.30 pm (16:30) on Sunday, October 1, 2017. Please keep in touch with us after you leave the hostel. We will be happy to get connected and hear news from you!


At what times will I eat at the hostel?

TOIT 2017 price includes full board for all participants.

The first meal included is Dinner on Thursday, September 28, 2017.

The last meal included is Lunch on Sunday, October 1, 2017.

Meals schedule at the hostel is the following:

Breakfast 8.30 - 9.00

Lunch: 13.30 - 14.00

Dinner: 20.00 - 20.30

Coffee breaks:

12.00 (noon)

16.30

TOIT 2017 participants will be invited to the Welcome Dinner sponsored by Young SIETAR at a local restaurant on Thursday, September 28, 2017.


I am allergic to some foods. Can the menu be adopted according to my needs?

Yes. If you suffer any sort of food allergy or intolerance, you should fill in the form with all the requested information and return it to the hostel with an attached medical certificate stating the diagnosis. This information will then be studied by the nutrition specialist team in order to adapt the menus to this person's needs, if necessary.

This form, filled with all the required data and duly signed, must be sent to the hostel a minimum of 5 days in advance (by Sept. 22, 2017) of the trip in the case of common allergies, and a minimum of 15 days in advance (by Sept. 12, 2017), in the case of non-common allergies. If this information is received later than that specified above, complying with the request will be subject to the judgement of the hostel's management.

Questions about transportation


How do I arrive at the hostel from airport?

Take an aerobus from Barcelona airport (BCN) to Barcelona city, Plaça Catalunya. At Plaça Catalunya change from bus to the commuter train. Then take the commuter train (RENFE) from Plaça Catalunya to Ocata station in Masnou. This connection is called the Mataró route. It’s 800m walk from the Ocata station to the hostel. How do I reach Barcelona from the hostel?

Take a commuter train (RENFE) from downtown Barcelona (Plaça Catalunya) to Ocata (Masnou) that leaves every 10 minutes. This connection is called the Mataró route.

Will there be a pick-up service?

No. No pick-up service is provided by TOIT 2017 orga team. Please arrange our trip to the TOIT 2017 venue on your own.


Questions about how to get ready


Can I change responses to questions in my registration form?

Yes. You can update the information on your Eventbrite order any time. Please follow the instructions


What else should I pack?

Please bring a sun block, sunglasses and your swimwear. The end of September might not be that hot but it can still be very sunny. Bring a jacket as well, just in case it gets chilly in the evening. Also waterproof clothes/shoes or an umbrella in case it rains. There are also some rain showers at the end of September. The temperature in Celsius varies from day to night but it should be between 24 and 15 degrees. People usually dress very informally but also like to dress up for a dinner out or something like that. Although outfits are usually informal, people do not wear sports clothes if they are not exercising.


What should I wear?

You can stay casual for the seminar, but take into account the weather forecast for outdoor clothing. It’s the best to check the weather forecast shortly before the trip.


What is the Spanish currency?

EUR


What electricity current is used in Spain?

Electrical voltage in Spain is the same as EU standard.

Participants from North America, Great Britain, Ireland and post-Soviet countries will need an adaptor. They will also need a voltage converter for gadgets like hair-dryer, hair-straightener, razors, etc. if they coming from the US (since voltage is different).


Can I drink the tap water?

Yes, it is safe to drink tap water in Barcelona and in Masnou.


Can we organize our own free time?

Yes. However, TOIT 2017  is very intensive. Sessions begin at 9 am and finish at 7 pm.


How can I make the most of experiencing Catalan culture?

Go for a walk in a town or at the promenade near a beach, say 'Hola' if you come across someone on your way. Walk to a beach and relax, swim, and sunbathe. Most women are topless at beaches, it is very common. During the late afternoon/evening, people like to gather at terraces and have a drink. Just try to be outdoors as much as possible, and walk everywhere. Enjoy the nice weather!
