Join the Research Team at Young SIETAR

We’re excited that you are interested in volunteering with Young SIETAR! Our research team plays an important role in shaping the organization’s knowledge base and making sure our members stay connected to intercultural research and practice.

Is this for me?

This volunteer role is for you if you:
  • Have an interest in intercultural research (no advanced degree required – curiosity is enough!)
  • Want to support research-related projects and content in our community
  • Are looking for a way to contribute, learn, and collaborate with others
  • Can dedicate a few hours per month to Young SIETAR activities
Please note: This is an unpaid volunteer position. All of us at Young SIETAR are motivated by passion for differences and creating intercultural understanding. Membership in Young SIETAR is required for volunteering. If you are not yet a member, you can join before applying. To foster diversity, we particularly welcome applications from male or diverse members with non-European backgrounds. But most of all, we welcome motivated and curious individuals who want to make a difference.

What would I be doing as a research team volunteer?

As a team member, you will collaborate with the Research Coordinator and other volunteers to:

  • Support ongoing research projects (e.g. collecting data, analyzing findings, compiling resources)
  • Contribute research content to the YS newsletter (e.g. books, models, definitions, summaries)
  • Help update and expand the YS website’s research section (e.g. Intercultural Journal Database)
  • Share opportunities with members (e.g. calls for papers, conferences, or research networks)
  • Brainstorm and develop new research ideas with the team
  • Join team calls or working sessions as needed

The time investment is flexible, around 2–5 hours per month. Some months may be busier than others, and that’s okay – we value balance and mutual support.

What else can I do?

We encourage creativity! You can bring your own research interests and skills into the team. For example, you might:

  • Help design or conduct surveys for the community
  • Summarize research findings in a member-friendly way
  • Create visuals, infographics, or short explainers to make research more accessible
  • Connect YS with academic networks or intercultural projects

This is a great opportunity if you want to build experience in research, collaborate in an international network, and contribute to a community passionate about intercultural learning.
